How to Read This 4G Mobile Coverage Map?
The map above allows you to check the number of operators providing 4G connectivity services. Mobile network coverage is displayed as an aggregated grid of 100x100 meters, with a color scale up to green (maximum coverage percentage). Areas without color indicate the absence of 4G - LTE antennas installed by mobile network operators.
Remember:Â Actual availability depends on various factors, including environmental and weather conditions, as well as potential obstacles between your location and the antenna.
Who Manages the 4G Mobile Network in Switzerland?
In Switzerland, the 4G/LTE mobile network is managed by the three main telecom providers:
In addition to these, various Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs)Â use the networks of Swisscom, Sunrise, or Salt to provide mobile services.
How Fast Is the 4G Network of Swiss Providers?
Fourth-generation networks arrived in Switzerland in 2012. With technological advancements, improvements have been made to bring real speeds closer to the theoretical maximum of LTE technology (up to 1200 Mbps).
The speed of LTE-A (LTE Advanced) connections varies among the major mobile operators and depends on location. Since 2017, Swisscom has introduced 1 Gbps speeds in 11 cities, followed by Sunrise and Salt, which matched this achievement. Today, browsing speeds reach up to 1 Gbps download and 500 Mbps upload.
What Are the Pros and Cons of an LTE Mobile Connection?
The following table summarizes the main pros and cons of a 4G connection:
Pros | Cons |
High speed, up to 1 Gbps with LTE-A. | Performance varies, depending on coverage and network congestion. |
Wide coverage, even in rural areas. | Higher latency than fiber, less suitable for gaming or 4K streaming. |
Total mobility, accessible anywhere with signal. | Data consumption may have limits and extra costs per additional GB. |
Easy to activate, no need for fixed installations. | Device battery usage, as 4G can drain more energy on smartphones and portable modems. |
With this information in mind, you can now go to the comparison section and find the mobile plan that suits you.
