Best fibre optic internet in Switzerland 2026: fastest providers compared

Updated: 4 days ago

Fibre optic is the most powerful technology for home internet – offering ultra-low latency, high bandwidth and long-term reliability. But not all fibre connections are equal: FTTH, FTTB, FTTC and FWA differ significantly in real-world performance. This article analyses which Swiss provider has the fastest fibre optic network, based on the latest nPerf data (2025 Annual Report, published January 2026).

Which provider has the fastest fibre network in Switzerland? (nPerf 2025)

For an objective performance comparison, we rely on the nPerf 2025 Annual Report for Fixed Internet Connections in Switzerland (01.01.2025–31.12.2025). nPerf aggregates real-world speed tests from users of its app – download, upload, latency, web browsing and YouTube streaming quality.

How to switch to Fiber? – Step by Step

Activate your fiber optic in 5 steps:

  1. Check availability: Fiber is not yet available everywhere. Use the Internet-Check to see if FTTH is available at your address and if an OTO socket is present.

  2. Compare internet plans: Use the internet-offer comparison tool to find the best available deals.

  3. Activate the plan: Choose your preferred offer and complete the contract online.

  4. Technician appointment (if needed): Without an OTO socket, a technician will be required (approx. 4–6 weeks wait). If an OTO socket is already present, remote activation is possible (approx. 2 weeks).

  5. Cancel existing contract: Use the special termination right when switching providers. More info: Cancel internet plan.

FAQ: fibre optic in Switzerland

How much does a fibre optic plan cost in Switzerland?

Swiss fibre plans start at CHF 14.–/month (TeleKing KingFiber 20, 20 Mbit/s). For 1 Gbit/s, prices start from CHF 39.90/month (Sunrise Easy Internet). Activation fees range from CHF 0 to CHF 120.–.

Which is the fastest fibre optic provider in Switzerland in 2026?

According to the nPerf 2025 Annual Report, Salt is the overall winner with the best fixed internet score (168,537 nPoints overall, 181,982 nPoints FTTH). Salt leads in download (966 Mb/s FTTH), upload (725 Mb/s) and latency (9.11 ms). Swisscom leads in streaming and web navigation.

What is the difference between FTTH and FTTC?

FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) means the fibre cable runs directly into your apartment. FTTC (Fiber-to-the-Curb) ends at the street cabinet – the last stretch to your home still runs on old copper cable, which limits speed. For maximum performance, FTTH is the standard of choice.

How fast is fiber optic in Switzerland?

Switzerland is known for having one of the most advanced internet infrastructures in Europe, including fiber optics.

Fiber optic speeds in Switzerland

  • FTTH (Fiber To The Home):

    • Download speeds: up to 10 Gbps in areas with more advanced infrastructure.

    • Upload speeds: typically between 1 and 10 Gbps, depending on the operator and the offer.

  • Mixed Fiber (FTTC):

    • Download speeds: up to 500 Mbps, but this depends on the distance from the street cabinet.

    • Upload speeds: typically between 50 and 100 Mbps.

Keep in mind that the maximum speed of your fiber optic connection will depend on any limitations imposed by the operator and the plan you select when subscribing. Always check the terms and conditions before signing up.
